Aerobatic Video: First in FSX
Simulator:   Microsoft FSX .
Aircraft:       AX-1 aerobatic trainer, custom built exterior
model and flight dynamics for FS2004
Date:           24 Oct 2006

Flying my AX-1 aerobatic trainer built for FS2004 was the first test I did with the new version Flight Simulator X . I encount-ered no problems with the external model resp. with the flight dynamics model compared with the use in FS2004.

So I was able to train this sequence, the result of which I recorded via the FSX video function.

The FSX video has been captured with FRAPS, which generated an .avi -file which sadly is copmpressed and loses in qality but still looks good enough. The file size, even zipped is 650 MB . So I converted this .avi to .wmv- and .mpeg -formats with Pinnacle Studio 8 which yields smaller sizes but worse quality, I´m not happy with. I feel .mpeg is slightly better than .wmv so I splitted the bigger .mpeg-file from the complete sequence into 4 seperate videos. 1)

.wmv .mpeg
.mpeg (zipped )
Playing the .mpeg videos online freezes the Meda Player in my System ! wmv video works fine
Complete sequence 6.5 MB 57.1 MB 19.1 MB
Separated into 4 files
In a test I was not able to run the .mpegs online
so I added them zipped, too.

1) Splitting the avi File in four smaller parts is no help as the new .avis created this way with Pinnacle Studio 8 are of no better quality as the .mpegs. Capturing smaller parts of the complete sequence directly and zipping these would yield a decent file siz eat least for high speed download, but the original .avis created by FRAPS can only be run with a specific codec, which comes by installation of the program.
